English/Language Arts

Reading Literature

RL.7.4- Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative and connotative meanings: analyze the impact of rhymes and other repetitions of sounds (e.g., alliteration) on a specific verse or stanza of a poem or section of a story or drama.

Reading Informational

RI.7.9 – Analyze how two or more authors writing about the same topic shape their presentation of key information by emphasizing different evidence or advancing different interpretations of facts.

Writing

W.7.1- Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence.

Mathematics 7

Essential Concept 1: (ALCOS Standard #16):

Students will be able to solve problems involving area, volume, and surface area of objects composed of triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, cubes, and right prisms.

Essential Concept 2 (ALCOS Standards #17, 18, 20):

Students will be able to determine if a statistical sample is representative of the population from which it is chosen; define random sampling and draw inferences/conclusions about a population using data from a random sample; and compare data sets using measures of central tendency and variability.

Essential Concept 3 (ALCOS Standards #21, 22):

Students will be able to demonstrate that the probability of an event occurring is expressed as a number between 0 and 1, with larger numbers indicating greater likelihood, and they will be able to approximate the probability of an event occurring by collecting experimental data on the frequency with which the event occurs.

Math 7 Accelerated

Essential Concept 1 (ALCOS Standards #21, 22 – Math 7):

Students will be able to demonstrate that the probability of an event occurring is expressed as a number between 0 and 1, with larger numbers indicating greater likelihood, and they will be able to approximate the probability of an event occurring by collecting experimental data on the frequency with which the event occurs.

Essential Concept 2 (ALCOS Standards #3, 4 – Math 8):

Students will be able to apply the properties of integer exponents to simplify expressions and evaluate the roots of small perfect squares and small perfect cubes.

Essential Concept 3 (ALCOS Standards #11, 13, 14 – Math 8):

Students will be able to define a function as a rule that assigns each input to exactly one output and recognize the equation y = mx + b as a linear function (giving examples of functions that are both linear and not linear).

Science

4. Construct models and representations of organ systems (e.g., circulatory, digestive, respiratory, muscular, skeletal, nervous) to demonstrate how multiple interacting organs and systems work together to accomplish specific functions.

16. Construct an explanation based on evidence (e.g., cladogram, phylogenetic tree) for the anatomical similarities and differences among modern organisms and between modern and fossil organisms, including living fossils (e.g., alligator, horseshoe crab, nautilus, coelacanth).

18. Construct an explanation from evidence that natural selection acting over generations may lead to the predominance of certain traits that support successful survival and reproduction of a population and to the suppression of other traits.

Geography

1.5 Categorizing the geographic organization of people, places, and environments using spatial

models.

7.3 Describing ways in which urban areas interact and influence surrounding regions.

10.1 Identifying types, locations, and characteristics of natural hazards, including earthquakes,

hurricanes, tornadoes, and mudslides.
